More to car purchase than electric windows
Female persuasion (Drive, 22/3)? What about just selling reliable cars at an affordable price? People can then narrow the field by using their own requirements as a gauge. Say you want a smallish hatchback. That eliminates the Honda Civic, because it now only comes as a sedan. Manual transmission? Out goes the Mitsubishi Colt, which only has auto. The Smart ForTwo? I want a car, not a rollerskate. The Proton Satria and Wira also lose out in the reliability stakes. But whatever you do, don't skip the most important step of all. Talk to people who own the cars that you are considering. Find out how those owners were treated if they bought a faulty car and wanted it fixed under warranty. When I bought my Volkswagen, I did not even think to ask other owners about their experiences. When you are thinking about buying a new car, there are far more important considerations than whether it has electric windows or how many CDs the stacker will hold.Helen Moss, Croydon
